Eight of the top 10 golfers in the FedExCup standings will tee off on Thursday at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship. This is a PGA Tour-only event, as only Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg are among the top 10 players who do not compete. Rory McIlroy (three wins) and Max Homa (two) are the only multiple champions of this tournament, which takes place at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Wyndham Clark scored his first win at this event last year and is one of seven previous winners in the field of Wells Fargo Championship 2024.
Coming off a victory in his last match, McIlroy is the 13-2 favorite to win for the fourth time at this event. The No. 4 player in the world, Xander Schauffele, remains at 9-1 in the latest 2024 Wells Fargo Championship odds, with Clark at 14-1. Homa is one of three golfers listed at 22-1, alongside Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa. SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on a roll since the PGA Tour restarted in June 2020. In fact, the model has won more than $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, winning tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model correctly predicted that Scottie Scheffler would finish atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship and RBC Heritage this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit +9,000, and throughout the tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,000.
The model also predicted that Jon Rahm would be victorious in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model surpassed Rahm’s second major career win over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead in the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive victory at the Masters, which also guaranteed Scheffler’s victory in 2022.
Additionally, McClure’s best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing at the top of the table 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic rankings.

Top Wells Fargo Championship Predictions for 2024
A big surprise the model is waiting for at the Wells Fargo Championship 2024: Clark, the defending champion and one of the main favorites, stumbles this week and barely makes it into the top 10. Clark has played extremely well in 2024, securing one victory and two runners-up -championships.
However, Clark has finished T-31 or worse in two of his last three PGA Tour starts, which includes a missed cut at the Masters. He has also struggled with accuracy off the tee this season. The 30-year-old enters this week’s event ranked 111th for driving accuracy (60.10%). Quail Hollow values positioning off the tee, which doesn’t bode well for Clark’s chances of repeating as champion.
Another surprise: Tommy Fleetwood, with a 25-1 chance, has a good campaign for the title. The Englishman finished fifth in this tournament last year and was 14th in the previous match, making him just one of eight players in the field with multiple top-16 finishes over the last four years at Quail Hollow. He has been as impressive on the PGA Tour this season as he was last month, when he achieved his best Masters finish (third place) and was also seventh at the Texas Open.
Fleetwood combines accuracy off the tee, ranking third on tour in driving accuracy percentage, with an immaculate short game, ranking 15th in strokes gained: around the green. Nearly half of the holes at Quail Hollow measure between 450 and 510 yards, and Fleetwood excels on par 4s from that distance, ranking in the top 10 on the PGA Tour in scoring. He has reached par or better in each of his last six rounds on this course, and given his results and metrics from this year’s PGA Tour season, Fleetwood is being greatly underestimated with his long odds.
