Coach Hubert Davis has been aggressive in the college basketball transfer portal and brought in some of North Carolina’s top basketball recruits from the class of 2024, so how confident should Tar Heels fans feel heading into the 2024 college basketball season? 25 start? North Carolina Basketball Roster Matches
North Carolina is replacing one of the most talented players in ACC history as big man Armando Bacot has used up the remainder of his eligibility. He averaged double-doubles in three consecutive seasons, setting the program record for career double-doubles and rebounds. Bacot is one of three players in school history to finish with at least 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Veteran guard Cormac Ryan is also out of eligibility after averaging 11.5 points in his final college season, which followed stints at Stanford and Notre Dame. North Carolina’s other major loss is Harrison Ingram, who declared for the NBA draft after averaging 12.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. While he could still technically withdraw from the draft by the end of the month, all signs point to him remaining in the draft and beginning his professional career. North Carolina Basketball News, Roster
North Carolina has made a splash in the 2024 class and the transfer portal, but the Tar Heels could use at least one more established big man to replace 6-foot-2 Armando Bacot, who is out of eligibility. Bacot has averaged a double-double in each of his last three seasons and that size and production is hard to duplicate. One name potentially linked to North Carolina is Coleman Hawkins, a 6-foot-5 forward who averaged 12.1 points and 6.1 rebounds at Illinois last season.
Hawkins has put his name in the 2024 NBA Draft, but there is also a feeling he could return to college as he is also in the transfer portal. He is one of 78 players invited to the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, but that doesn’t rule out a return to college. Hawkins is a four-year college player with one year of eligibility remaining. At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, he’s the type of physical presence the Tar Heels could use to fill out their lineup. He’s one of the more intriguing names left in the transfer portal for North Carolina fans to keep an eye on. Join Inside Carolina for the latest on all of North Carolina’s roster additions.
