The Arkansas Razorbacks made a bold move by signing John Calipari from the Kentucky Wildcats. Calipari went 410-123 in 15 seasons at Kentucky and won a national championship in 2012. However, the Wildcats have not advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since 2019 and Calipari is tasked with rebuilding the entire Arkansas basketball roster. All remaining scholarship players on the Arkansas basketball roster with eligibility entered the college basketball transfer portal, but Calipari was quickly able to add talent.
He signed four transfers and also signed three top-25 players through Arkansas basketball recruiting. Arkansas Basketball Roster Matches
Last year’s Arkansas team returned 36.3% of its scoring on the 2022-23 roster, which is a high rate in this transfer portal era. But this year’s Arkansas Razorbacks team returns 0.0003% of its scoring thanks to the only holdover, Lawson Blake, scoring just one point from a year ago. So Calipari has a complete roster overhaul to do as the 2024-25 Arkansas basketball team will have no continuity. Double-digit scorers Tramon Mark and Khalif Battle transferred, respectively, to Texas and Gonzaga as part of the mass exodus from Fayetteville.
The Razorbacks’ average age of 22.7 last season was the second oldest in Division I when weighted by minutes. The team is losing nine seniors and even those who lowered their average age have already left. Layden Blocker and Baye Fall, who were freshmen in the Class of 2023 and top-10 national prospects at their respective positions, have since committed to other programs. So while Calipari has done a good job of adding high-profile recruits and transfers, he still only has a seven-man roster, so there’s a lot of work to be done. Arkansas Basketball News, Roster
Calipari quickly began working on the Class of 2024 and the transfer portal, bringing Zvonimir Ivisic and Adou Thiero with him from Kentucky and beating out Boogie Fland, Billy Richmond and Karter Knox from the Wildcats. He also added two stars in Jonas Aidoo and Johnell Davis.
Aidoo was second-team All-SEC in 2023-24 for the Tennessee Volunteers and averaged 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. Meanwhile, Davis was the AAC Player of the Year for the Florida Atlantic Owls, averaging 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Davis was also a key part of FAU’s 2023 Final Four team and was ranked as the No. 3 transfer prospect in the 2024 class. Join HawgSports for the latest on all of Arkansas’ roster additions.
