French Open 2024: Schedule, how to watch, live stream, singles draw, seeding, notable fourth-round matchups

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic survived a five-set battle against Lorenzo Musetti to advance to the fourth round of the French Open, continuing his quest for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam trophy. After a rain delay, Djokovic cruised to a 7-5, 6-7 (6-9), 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Musetti at 3 a.m. local time on Sunday in Paris.

Another title is not the only thing at stake for the Serbian veteran, who will face Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round on Monday. Djokovic, last year’s French Open winner, needs to at least reach the semi-finals to have a chance of maintaining his world ranking, otherwise Italian star Jannik Sinner could dethrone him. Sinner already booked his ticket to the fourth round with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pavel Kotovic on Friday. He will face Corentin Moutet on Sunday,

This tournament historically belongs to Rafael Nadal. However, the Spanish legend was eliminated early with a first round defeat to Alexander Zverev and may have played at Roland Garros for the last time. Spain would not be without a star, as 21-year-old Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz has come into his own. He is one of the favorites for the French Open and has already secured a place in the quarter-finals, where he will face Stefanos Tsitsipas.

In the women’s tournament, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek was nearly defeated by Naomi Osaka in the second round, but used that as a wake-up call and beat her next two opponents in straight sets. Swiatek has not been lost at Roland Garros since the 2021 quarterfinals and is currently riding an 18-match winning streak at the French Open. She also won 16 consecutive matches on clay, with victories in Madrid and Rome.

Swiatek will face No. 5 seed Marketa Vondrousova in Tuesday’s quarterfinals. Vondrousova has not reached the French Open final since 2019, but made a statement last season when she became the first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon. She followed this up by reaching the US Open quarterfinals.
