The big waves of 2024 NFL Free agency is on the back burner, but even with many teams starting minicamps ahead of the new season, there are still plenty of notable veterans available. And now that many teams have gained additional salary cap space due to post-June 1 cuts, some of which were designated at the start of the offseason, it’s possible that some of the remaining undrafted players could attract new interest on the open market.
Which free agents, in particular, could re-emerge as potential targets? Here are some of the most notable:
The former Tennessee Titans starter is better suited at second, which may or may not be something he’s ready to fully accept, but with over 150 career starts, he offers plenty of experience as a pocket pass rusher.
Injuries caught up with him late in his run with the Las Vegas Raiders, but when active and involved as a slot receiver, Renfrow proved to be quite reliable, posting a 74.1% catch rate for his career. He could still excel as a depth play.
Once considered one of the best starters at his position, Thomas has played in just 20 games over the past four seasons. But he was quite effective when healthy in 2023 and still has solid size as a perimeter target.
He’s not necessarily a traditional wideout, but entering a season where the NFL is about to launch a completely revamped kickoff game encouraging comebacks, his vast experience as a returner could be valuable.
In the low 30s, Thomas may not be a long-term solution at tight end, but he has closed in on 500 yards for a mercurial Washington Commanders offense in 2023 and has been a decent pass catcher.
Cornerback is a volatile position, especially as players reach their 30s, but Howard still has a ballhawking resume (29 career interceptions) that could intrigue. He has had at least 12 pass breakups in four consecutive seasons.
He’s no chicken at 33 and missed a long stretch of 2020-2021, but the former New England Patriots star showed his vintage closing qualities for the Dallas Cowboys. He has more than 150 career starts to his credit.
Injuries have prevented Jackson from playing a full season since 2018, but the former New York Giants starter has been solid as a cover when he has been in the lineup. He also has returning experience earlier in his career.
One of the game’s most consistent secondary roamers during his time with the Denver Broncos, Simmons has 30 career picks and over 60 pass deflections. The biggest question is whether he will be able to maintain top speed until 31.
Jamal Adams is the biggest name to be exiled from the Seattle Seahawks’ porous secondary, but Diggs was more durable and reliable on the back end, not missing a single game as a converted corner from 2020-2023.
