Father’s Day is approaching—you can always mark it when the US Open is on the calendar—and there are plenty of directions you can go if you need a golf-related gift for the dad in your life. Whether someone is trying to improve their swing, their appearance on the course or how they carry their clubs, there are a number of top-notch options for the golf fan in your life.
In fact, perhaps there is no sport in which more new equipment, technologies, teaching tools and paraphernalia are created every year. There is always something new for golf fans to purchase, and they are often inundated with these options while watching on TV or reading about the sport online. In fact, there’s even an annual merchandise show convention for these exact items.
While this is not intended to be an exhaustive list of golf products, it is a compilation of a few that our team has tried or had their eye on over the past few months. It’s a mix of recommendations and notable items that you and yours can use to improve your play on the field… until it’s time to update the collection a year from now.
Let’s take a look at some of the best golf finds for your dad as his special day approaches.
Garmin Approach S70 Watch ($650 | Garmin): I’ve only had this watch for a few days and so far I love it. One thing I’ve been working on a lot in my own golf game is using the correct front and back numbers on approach shots, and the Approach S70 is designed to do just that. I can’t wait to put it into play on the field as my yardage reference device and to keep track of my scores and stats.
The watch does everything you’d expect from Garmin, including great stats on things like sleep, heart rate, weather, body battery, and running stats. Additionally, it features “43,000 full-color CourseView maps of golf courses from around the world, offers a club recommendation based on wind, elevation, swing data and more, provides a new shot scatter chart that shows which hazards can be in play depending on your club choice and helps you know how far each shot is actually being played, with yards adjusted for elevation changes as well as environmental conditions.
Titleist Vokey SM10 Wedges ($189 | Holder): On my personal path to better golf, the SM10 wedges have probably added more value than anything else besides the TSR2 driver. The SM10s offer “a lower, attacking flight that feels incredibly solid at impact with the SM10.” I can attest to this and would also recommend a Titleist fit-up in your area. This helped me know which clubs I should be at and with how many different options Titleist offers – not to mention chrome, nickel, jet black and raw finishes – this was a helpful first step.
Smart Puttr Putting Green ($599 | Puttr): This AI-powered golf mat is fun for both parents and little ones (or at least it has been for mine). You can practice putting by playing games where your score is kept online and compared to other players. Or you can play in person against other golfers. Puttr’s motto is that they “make practice fun with single and multiplayer games for beginners, weekend warriors, or pros.” I’ve found this to be true, and I appreciate that storage is easy and doesn’t take up much space.
ABC Classic-Fit Golf Short 7″ or 9″ ($98 | Lululemon): Good golf shorts are hard to find, but this pair from Lululemon with a 7″ and 9″ inseam is fantastic. I just wore them on a recent golf trip and they are perfect for both the course and going out for a beer or dinner afterwards. These shorts feature stretchy stretch panels at the waist, front pockets (with a hidden phone case on one side), a pocket on the right side for golf tees, and back pockets with snap closures that fit a phone and scorecards. I highly recommend them for this summer.
Kradul 9.5″ 14-Way Lux Hybrid Stand Bang ($279.99 | Kradul): One of the most versatile and attractive bags on the market, the Lux Hybrid’s clean look works on its own, but also offers the opportunity for your dad to customize the removable front decorative panel to make it his own. It can be used while walking, pushing, or riding a golf cart and runs on its own without a pedal. There’s easy access for your personal electronics, a waterproof pocket for valuables (the vegan leather exterior is perfect for rainy weather), and an insulated hydration pocket that will keep your drinks (whether ice water or adult beverages) cold throughout the day. round. This top of the line model is available in two sizes (7.5″) and two colors (fossil as pictured, tar), but currently on backorder. Kradul has other stands and stroller bags that can be delivered before Father’s Day For frequent purchases by players, the sports model withstands the most adverse conditions.
Costa Rinconcito Sunglasses ($220 | Coast): You may have noticed Tiger Woods using Costa Diego paintings recently. We prefer the Rinconcito because it’s a little more modern, but both styles offer a variety of color options—for frames and lenses—that your dad can choose from. Polarized lenses can be customized for your specific needs, whether it’s low light, very bright sunlight, or something in between. And most of the frames – there are 89 different options for sunglasses alone – can be used with a prescription, which can be applied at the time of purchase through an extremely easy process. Although Costa is often marketed for fishing and water sports, they make great glasses for any outdoor athletic activity. The style pictured is Rinconcito in Matte Atlantic Blue with mirrored silver gray polarized polycarbonate lenses.
TRUE LUX Customizable Dad Hat ($55 | TRUE linkwear): Available in four styles (canvas, ripstop, LUX technology, LUX dad hat) consisting of 17 color options with eight different patches, there are 136 different hats you can customize for your dad. TRUE launched its first shoe in 2010 and has only expanded its product line since then. Their craftsmanship is always of high quality, and their now-iconic “dead golfer” logo can usually be seen wherever you play.
B. Draddy Liam Polo ($110 | B. Draddy): The perfect polo for basically any occasion. Whether he’s hiking 18 holes in the summer heat, firing up the grill, or looking to cool off at a rooftop happy hour, the Liam offers versatility and style to make your dad look and feel his best in any situation. In a closet full of golf polo after golf polo, the Liam is the one we always look to use.
