For the past 16 years, Ralph Lauren has been the official supplier of Team USA for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics. Now, the costumes for the 2024 Paris Olympics have been was revealed.
The signature read, white and blue outfits are inspired by the host city, according to the brand. The Opening Ceremony uniform includes a tailored blazer with red and white trim and a striped oxford shirt. The fit is more causal with a pair of jeans.
For the closing ceremony, athletes will wear a motorcycle-style jacket with Polo and white jeans.
“This summer, Paris will be the setting where fashion and sport collide on the world stage with a global audience and this is an incredibly exciting proposition,” said the company’s director of branding and innovation, David Lauren.
The Polo is made with flat knit technology to minimize waste and is the brand’s first 100% recycled cotton Polo. Other parts of the uniforms are made from recycled polyester and US-grown wool.
Last year, Kim Kardashian Clothing company Skims has teamed up with Ralph Lauren in athletes’ clothing – providing them with underwear, leisurewear and pajamas.
At the beginning of this year, Nike revealed its designs for athletes – including uniforms for basketball, football and running events. But the company was criticized for what some saw as sexist women’s track and field uniforms. The uniforms, first posted by the digital media company Citius MagIt has a high-cut leg that barely covers the crotch area of a display mannequin, while the men’s version offers significantly more coverage.
