When former president Donald Trump Show up at Temple University for a rally on Saturday, the Democratic National Committee will have a message for him — and the party is doing its best to make sure he sees it too, with a billboard, a mobile billboard and kiosks in buildings around the campus where the rally will take place.

“Donald Trump is coming to North Philadelphia, but he can’t fool us,” the mobile billboard says. “He is a disaster for black Americans.”

The kiosks, targeting Trump’s relationship with the black community and young voters, highlighting President Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness efforts. They will be placed on buildings throughout campus and there will be a billboard saying, “If Trump Wins, Black Families Will Lose” along I-95.

The effort comes a few days later June tenthfederal holiday celebrating the end of slaveryand follows recent reports that Trump called Milwaukeewhere the Republican National Convention will be held this year, a “horrible city” during a meeting with House Republicans.

Vice President Kamala Harris addressed Milwaukee’s comment in an interview with radio host Sherwin Hughes on Thursday.

“Look at what Donald Trump did to… criticize Milwaukee. He did this to my hometown of Oakland,” Harris said. “He did it as it relates to Baltimore, as it relates to Atlanta and Philadelphia. And I’ll let your listeners connect the dots in terms of what all these cities have in common. he said, alluding to the fact that all of these cities have large black populations.

In 2017, Trump said Atlanta was “falling apart” and “infested with crime.” During his presidency, he called Baltimore “infested with rats and rodents.” And while he cast doubt on the 2020 election, Trump called Philadelphia, the site of Saturday’s rally, one of the “most corrupt political places in our country.”

In response to Harris, Janiyah Thomas, director of black media for the Trump team, said, “President Trump was referring to how Democratic policies are failing in these blue cities. If you ask the average voter in these cities, they will tell you that Joe Biden and Democrats have abandoned their communities and are desperate for change.”

Thomas added that the Trump campaign is reaching out to minority voters, while the Biden campaign is shining a light on black voters.

Black voters were an important demographic that helped Biden win in 2020 and were instrumental in his quest for the Democratic nomination. Despite this, there are indications that its support is wavering within the black community.

A recent CBS News Poll shows that 57% of black voters feel things would be better for them if Biden were reelected, compared to 69% of black voters who felt the same way if Trump won. Still, 81% of black voters said they would support Biden over Trump.

In an effort to make inroads into the black community, Trump held a roundtable with community leaders at a church in Detroit on Saturday. At the event, Trump said that Biden was the “worst president for black people”.

In a statement, DNC spokesman Abhi Rahman reiterated that Trump was “a disaster for minority communities — especially Black Americans.”

“He says he is not racist, but his record says otherwise. Time and time again, he insulted predominantly Black cities, and during his time in office, jobs disappeared, unemployment more than doubled for Black Americans during the pandemic, and his tax fraud widened the racial wealth gap,” Rahman said.

Rahman also argued that Black wealth reached a record high under Trump, while Black-owned small businesses started at a higher rate under the Biden administration.
