WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — Former President Donald Trump will return to Washington on Thursday to meet with Republican lawmakers to outline his agenda for a second term and try to unify the party before next month. Republican National Convention.
These private meetings will be held at the Capitol Hill Club, providing Republican lawmakers the opportunity to show solidarity with their presidential candidate.
This will be Trump’s first public visit to the Capitol since the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., emphasized the importance of being prepared for a possible Trump presidency in his comments to reporters Wednesday.
“I believe that President Trump, in his second term, which I believe he will have, could be the most important president of the modern era, because we have to effectively correct all areas of public policy,” Johnson said. “I don’t think we can waste a moment because there are so many things to do. So in light of this, we are talking to him and his team now and among ourselves to plan accordingly.”
Trump’s first visit since New York money hush case
Thursday’s meetings will also mark the first time Trump will meet with House GOP members since a jury found him guilty of all 34 criminal counts of falsifying business records in his New York money hiding case. , making him the first former US president convicted of a crime.
He faces sentencing in less than a month, just days before the Republican National Convention.
