North Carolina Basketball Roster Matches
The loss of Bacot cannot be overstated, as he helped ease the UNC coaching transition from Roy Williams to Hubert Davis. He was a double-double machine throughout his five years on campus, but he wasn’t the only key piece who won’t return for the 2024-25 UNC basketball season. Cormac Ryan, a sixth-year senior last year who averaged 11.5 points per game, is also out of eligibility, while All-ACC selection Harrison Ingram is testing the NBA Draft waters. He will be able to return to UNC and will have until May 29 to withdraw his name from the project.
North Carolina pursued Tennessee’s Jonas Aidoo and Stanford’s Andrej Stojakovic in the portal, but they opted to take their talents elsewhere. It’s not all bad news for the Carolina faithful, however, as reigning ACC Player of the Year and first-team All-American RJ Davis plans to get it back. He will return for his fifth season at UNC and provide some continuity with the projection that UNC will lose three of its four leading scorers from last year’s team. North Carolina made big moves in the transfer portal last year, adding Harrison Ingram and Cormac Ryan, among others. The Tar Heels are replacing several key players again this offseason, but they have already signed Belmont wing Cade Tyson, who was one of the best shooters in the portal. They also hosted former Rutgers center Clifford Omoruyi for an official visit just days before being selected to their top four schools.
Omoruyi listed Georgetown, Kansas State and Alabama on his bottom four list ahead of his decision, which he plans to announce Sunday. North Carolina is bringing in two five-star recruits, guard Ian Jackson and forward Drake Powell.
