For the fourth time since 1996, Valhalla Golf Club will host a major championship when the 2024 PGA Championship begins on Thursday. The Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Louisville, Kentucky also hosted the 2008 Ryder Cup and two Senior PGA Championships (2004 and 2011). The 156-player PGA Championship field is packed with elite players, but none of them may be more notable than Tiger Woods, who won the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla. The 15-time major champion comes in at a long shot at 125-1 in the latest 2024 PGA Championship odds.
Is Woods worth a look at the 2024 PGA Championship, or should you bet on one of the favorites like Scottie Scheffler (3-1), Rory McIlroy (6-1), Brooks Kopeka (10-1), Xander Schauffele (12 -1) or Ludvig Aberg (12-1)? Before securing your 2024 PGA Championship picks or Tiger Woods accessories, be sure to see golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on a roll since the PGA Tour restarted in June 2020. In fact, the model has won nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, winning tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model correctly predicted that Scottie Scheffler would finish atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit +9,000, and throughout the tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,000.
The model also predicted that Jon Rahm would be victorious in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model scored the second major victory of Rahm’s career over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead in the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive victory at the Masters, which also guaranteed Scheffler’s victory in 2022.
Additionally, McClure’s best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing at the top of the table 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic rankings.
This same model also hit 11 majors entering the weekend and has reached the Masters three years in a row. Anyone who followed it saw massive returns.
Now with the 2024 PGA Championship field taking shape, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results have been surprising. Visit SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top 2024 PGA Championship Predictions
A big surprise: Collin Morikawa, with a 25-1 chance, has a good campaign for the title. He is a target for anyone looking for a big payday. The 27-year-old already has two major championships under his belt, the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship, and is coming off a third-place finish at the 2024 Masters. Morikawa has three top-10s and six top-25s in 10 starts in 2024.
Morikawa has had a slow start to 2024 but has regained form in the last month. He followed his strong Masters performance with a ninth-place finish at the RBC Heritage against a Signature Event-caliber field and a top-25 finish at New Orleans’ Zurich Classic in late April. Morikawa is ranked 34th on the PGA Tour in both strokes gained from tee to green (.612) and strokes gained around the green (.288)
The model also examined where Tiger Woods ends up. Since he suffered a horrific leg injury in a car accident in February 2021, Woods has played sporadically. He has made seven world appearances in the last two years and had to withdraw from three of them due to injury or illness. However, he has made a point of trying to play on courses that have historical significance to him and that can be nostalgic for Valhalla.
Woods beat Bob May in a playoff to win his fifth career major championship and his second PGA Championship in 2000 and when he won the 2001 Masters eight months later, he became the first player in history to hold all four major titles at a turn. Tiger put together two solid rounds to open the 2024 Masters, but struggled over the weekend. However, completing a four-round event should serve as a confidence boost and Valhalla should be an easier ride for Woods than Augusta. How to Make Picks for the 2024 PGA Championship
The model also targets four other golfers with odds of 25-1 or better to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who supports these longshot hypotheses could hit big. You can only see the model choices here.
