2024 RBC Canadian Open odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions by model that’s nailed 12 majors

The PGA Tour heads north this week to Hamilton Golf Club in Ontario, which will host the 2024 RBC Canadian Open. Rory McIlroy won by seven strokes when the tournament was played in Hamilton in 2019, finishing at 22 under. McIlroy is the +330 favorite (risk $100 to win $330) in the 2024 RBC Canadian Open odds, while Tommy Fleetwood is +1800 and Sahith Theegala is +2000. Nick Taylor, who became the first Canadian to win this tournament in 69 years last year, is 70-1 on the PGA odds board. Fellow Canadian Adam Hadwin is also in the 2024 RBC Canadian Open field at 55-1 odds.

Hadwin finished sixth on this course in 2019 and added another top-15 finish at the Canadian Open last year. He’s finished in the top 10 at the Valspar, Genesis and American Express this year, so should you include him in your 2024 RBC Canadian Open bets? Before locking in your 2024 RBC Canadian Open picks, be sure to see golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on a roll since the PGA Tour restart in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, winning tournament after tournament .

McClure’s model correctly predicted that Scheffler would finish atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit +9,000, and throughout the tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,000. And at the 2024 PGA Championship, the model correctly classified Xander Schauffele’s first major win of the weekend.

The model also predicted that Rahm would be victorious in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model scored the second major victory of Rahm’s career over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead in the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive victory at the Masters, which also guaranteed Scheffler’s victory in 2022.

Additionally, McClure’s best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing at the top of the table 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic rankings.

This same model also hit 12 majors over the weekend, including the last three Masters and the 2024 PGA Championship. Anyone who followed it saw massive returns.

Now that the field for the 2024 RBC Canadian Open is finalized, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results have been surprising. Visit SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top RBC Canadian Open Predictions for 2024

A big surprise the model is waiting for at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open: Tommy Fleetwood, who finished runner-up last year and has the second lowest odds this year, stumbles and narrowly misses the top five. Fleetwood has been eliminated in 114 of the 136 PGA Tour events he has played in, but is still looking for his first victory. He has been outside the top 10 in his last three tournaments this season, including a T49 finish at the RBC Heritage.

Fleetwood is outside the top 100 on the PGA Tour in distance traveled, GIR percentage and shots gained: approach to the green. He did not play in this event when it was hosted by Hamilton Golf Club in 2019, which puts him at a disadvantage against some of the other golfers in the field. The SportsLine model doesn’t like Fleetwood’s chances of finally getting a PGA Tour win this week. See who else will disappear here.

Another surprise: Alex Noren, with a 25-1 chance, is having a good campaign for the title. He has a much better chance of winning it all than his odds suggest, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a big payday. Noren has shown remarkable consistency this season, making the cut in all 12 PGA Tour events in which he has entered.

The 41-year-old has finished in the top 25 in eight consecutive tournaments, including a third-place finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and a T9 at the Cognizant Classic. Noren added a T12 at the PGA Championship earlier this month, shooting 12 under. He ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained, so the model identified him as an undervalued long shot in a relatively weak field. See who else can return here.

How to make picks at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open

The model also targets four other golfers with odds of 25-1 or better to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who supports these longshot hypotheses could hit big. You can only see the model choices here.
