2024 U.S. Open odds, predictions, picks: Scottie Scheffler projection by golf model that called last 2 majors

Scottie Scheffler continues to build on one of the most dominant years in PGA history. The No. 1 ranked player in the world and FedEx Cup won his fifth tournament of the year over the weekend, defeating Collin Morikawa at the Memorial. This is Scheffler’s fifth win in his last eight events and he has not finished outside the top 10 at any start this year. He will be looking for his sixth overall victory and his second major victory of the year, starting on Thursday at the 2024 US Open, which will take place at Pinehurst Resort Course No.

Scheffler is the 11-4 favorite in the 2024 US Open odds, up from 4-1 since winning the Memorial Tournament. The trio of Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau are all 10-1. Other notables on the PGA odds board to enter the 2024 US Open include two-time US Open champion Brooks Koepka at 20-1, defending US Open champion Wyndham Clark at 33-1 and three-time US Open champion Tiger Woods at 125-1. Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on a roll since the PGA Tour restarted in June 2020. In fact, the model has won nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, winning tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model correctly predicted that Scottie Scheffler would finish atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship this season. The model also predicted that Jon Rahm would be victorious in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model scored the second major victory of Rahm’s career over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead in the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive victory at the Masters, which also guaranteed Scheffler’s victory in 2022.

Top US Open Predictions for 2024

A big surprise: Justin Thomas, with a 35-1 chance, has a good campaign for the title. He is a target for anyone looking for a big payday. Thomas’ first major debut came at Pinehurst at the 2014 US Open when he was 21 and qualified through a regional sectional. He didn’t even have a PGA Tour card and missed the cut at the major, but he also gained invaluable experience from the course. That should serve him well in this year’s tournament, as well as his solid performance this year on tour. In fact, he is 14th in the FedEx Cup standings after finishing 71st last season.

Thomas entered Memorial with three consecutive top-25 finishes, including two of them top-10 finishes. His (adjusted) scoring average ranks 11th on the PGA Tour, and only six golfers average more birdies per round than the two-time major winner. He is excelling in both the long and short games, ranking 19th in total driving efficiency and 10th in strokes gained: around the green. Given his previous great success and the rebound in his game this season, it is surprising that there are 14 golfers with shorter odds for the 2024 US Open, so Thomas is a bargain for PGA betting.

The model also examined where Scottie Scheffler ends up. Few question Scheffler’s status as a top contender, however, golf bettors should contemplate the value as his odds continue to fall. At 11-4, he now has odds of less than 3-1, making him one of the biggest favorites in golf history.

This is the seventh time Scheffler has been favored at a major since 2023, although he has won just one major in that time. He is also still seeking his first major victory outside of Augusta.
