The 2024 US Open heads into the weekend beginning Saturday morning with Ludvig Aberg atop the leaderboard at No. 2 Pinehurst in North Carolina. The 24-year-old Swedish star is at 5 under after the second round, but has some stiff competition right behind him. Thomas Detry, Bryson DeChambeau, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Cantlay are all a shot back. Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau and Matthieu Pavon are all at two at 3 under.
The latest 2024 US Open odds list Aberg as the slight +333 favorite. DeChambeau (4-1), McIlory (9-2) and Cantlay (9-1) are other top candidates on the odds board. McClure’s model correctly predicted that Scheffler would finish atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship this season. The model also predicted that Rahm would be victorious in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model surpassed Rahm’s second major career win over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead in the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive victory at the Masters, which also guaranteed Scheffler’s victory in 2022.

Top US Open Predictions for 2024
A big surprise the model awaits at the 2024 US Open over the weekend: Cantlay, one of the main favorites, stumbles and finishes outside the top five. With Xander Schauffele winning the PGA Championship, Cantlay is now one of the best current golfers without a major victory. He is currently ranked ninth in the world and has reached third place.
He is just a shot off the lead, but that is largely due to his impressive 65 points in the first round. He wasn’t able to replicate that form in the second, shooting 71, and the model is projecting that he won’t keep up with some of the other top names as he finds better values to utilize in the 2024 US Open betting. Another surprise: Hideki Matsuyama, with a 16-1 chance, has a good campaign for the title. He has a much better chance of winning than his odds suggest, so he is a target for anyone looking for a big payday. The 2021 Masters winner went through several troubles at the US Open.
He finished fourth in 2022, T2 in 2017 and T10 in 2013, so he knows what it takes to compete in this event. He was in a bad position after the first round, but moved up on Friday with a 66 that took him to 2 under par and three shots out of the lead. The model projects that it will continue to climb the leaderboard and position itself to be in contention on Sunday, making it a great value for bets on the 2024 US Open weekend.
