2024 U.S. Open picks, odds: Surprising Sunday predictions by PGA golf model that’s nailed 12 majors

Bryson DeChambeau has a 54-hole lead in a major championship for the first time in his career as he enters Sunday’s final round at the 2024 U.S. Open with a three-shot lead over Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Matthieu Pavon. DeChambeau won the 2020 US Open, finished T6 at the Masters earlier this year and added a runner-up finish at the PGA Championship last month. He is the -110 favorite (risk $110 to win $100) in the 2024 US Open odds, followed by McIlroy (+330) and Cantlay (+700). Should you bet on DeChambeau to finish the job with your 2024 US Open bets?

Some of the other 2024 US Open contenders include Ludvig Aberg (+1600), Matthieu Pavon (+1600) and Hideki Matsuyama (+1600). The rest of the 2024 US Open field is out at 40-1, but are there any US Open longshots worth betting on before the final round? Before locking in any 2024 US Open picks for the final round on Sunday, be sure to see the 2024 US Open golf predictions and projected leaderboard from SportsLine’s proven computer model.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on a roll since the PGA Tour restarted in June 2020. In fact, the model has won nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, winning tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model correctly predicted that Scheffler would finish atop the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit +9,000, and throughout the tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted that Rahm would be victorious in the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model scored the second major victory of Rahm’s career over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead in the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive victory at the Masters, which also guaranteed Scheffler’s victory in 2022.

This same model also nailed 12 majors heading into the weekend, including the last three Masters and the 2024 PGA Championship. Those who have already followed are in high demand.

Now, as the final round of the 2024 US Open approaches, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results have been surprising. Visit SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top US Open Predictions for 2024

A big surprise the model expects at the 2024 US Open on Sunday: Pavon, who is tied for second place and is one of the main favorites, stumbles and ends up outside the top five. He started on a high note during the front nine on Saturday, taking the solo lead with three birdies and six pars. His luck changed on the final nine when he made a pair of bogeys to let the lead slip away.

The 31-year-old has never finished in the top 10 at a major championship, so he has no experience of playing near the top of the leaderboard on Sundays. He has missed the cut in his last two U.S. Open appearances and has just one PGA Tour victory in his career. The model expects Pavon to fade into the final stretch on Sunday, projecting him to finish outside the top five. See who else will disappear here.

Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, with a 45-1 chance, has a good campaign for the title. He has a much better chance of winning than his odds suggest, so he is a target for anyone looking for a big payday. Morikawa barely scraped by after a round of 74 on Friday, but bounced back with an impressive 66 on Saturday to move within seven strokes of the lead. He drained three birdies on the back nine and played a bogey-free round, while others posted lopsided scores.

The former Cal star hasn’t won a tournament since the Zozo Championship last October, but has been a consistent presence at major championships. Morikawa has five top-10 finishes in his last seven starts this season, including a runner-up finish at Memorial last week. The two-time major champion will enter the final round with the chance to make some noise and climb the leaderboard once again. See who else can return here.

How to make picks at the 2024 US Open

The model also targets three other golfers with odds of 45-1 or better to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who supports these longshot hypotheses could hit big. You can only see the model choices here.
