If you were patiently waiting for the NFL Schedule for it to be released, you won’t have to wait much longer, and that’s because the release date is already set. The NFL announced that the 2024 schedule will be released on Wednesday, May 15, making it the latest calendar release since at least 1990.
If you want complete coverage of the lineup launch, here’s everything you need to know:
Date: Wednesday, May 15 | Time: 8 p.m. ET
TELEVISION: NFL Network
CBS Sports Headquarters: We’ll have full coverage at CBS Sports headquarters starting at 8pm ET on May 15th.
The 2024 release will mark the fifth year in a row that the lineup has released in May, so you can probably plan for that to happen the rest of the time. Before 2020, the NFL schedule was typically released in April, but the date was moved to May during the pandemic. The NFL liked the May release date so much that they decided to keep it.
The later release date means the league doesn’t have to finalize the schedule until after the draft, which allows the NFL to potentially put some of the league’s newest stars in primetime. For example, the Bears have probably become a much more attractive team to schedule makers now that they have Caleb Williams.
It’s unclear why the NFL delayed releasing the schedule so much this year, but at least one report suggested it had to do with the league trying to finalize the bidding process for the Christmas doubleheader. Right now, Netflix seems to be the favorite to get these two games.
While we won’t know the exact schedule until May 15, we do know the home and away opponents for all 32 teams. The 2024 schedule will include a rematch of last season’s two conference title games, plus a rematch of Super Bowl LVIII.
Check out some of the main games on the schedule:
- Chiefs at 49ers (Super Bowl LVIII rematch)
- Lions at 49ers (NFC title game rematch)
- Ravens at Chargers (Harbaugh bowl)
