The 2023 NFL the season came to an end after the Kansas City Chiefs won for the second time in a row Super Bowl. Free agency is in the rearview mirror, as is 2024 NFL Draft. Even OTAs and minicamps are over. Now, teams are preparing for next season, and the next step is training camp.
They will do their best to end Kansas City’s two-year reign at the top of the league, while the champions will no doubt try to do what they can this year to try for a third seed. In the space below, we’ve highlighted all the key dates and events to watch out for as the league prepares for the 2024 season.
Preparation for 2024 NFL season
- July 17th: Franchise Tag Deadline (4pm ET)

Start of the 2024 season
The pre-season will begin Thursday, August 1st, with the Chicago Bears facing the Houston Texans in the Hall of Fame Game. The full pre-season schedule can be seen here.
