The Florida Panthers started the Eastern Conference Finals in dominant fashion with a 3-0 victory over the Rangers in New York on Wednesday night.
Sergei Bobrovsky turned away all 23 shots he faced, and it marked the first shutout for the Panthers goaltender since Game 3 of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals against the Carolina Hurricanes. It was also the first time the Rangers had been eliminated since December 9, when they lost 4-0 to the Washington Capitals.
Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk opened the scoring late in the first period when he hit a shot that went past Igor Shesterkin’s glove. Tkachuk’s 16th career postseason goal moved him to second-most goals in franchise history. Carter Verhaeghe was credited for the Panthers’ second goal, which was actually passed by Shesterkin as it was deflected off a Rangers stick. Sam Bennett added an empty-netter to seal Florida’s victory.
