Florida Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues scored two goals, and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was sensational in net once again in a 4-1 victory in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. As a result, Florida now holds a 2-0 lead as the series moves to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4.
The Panthers spent the entire night producing more offense on the ice and outscored their counterparts by a wide margin. After registering just 18 shots on goal in Game 1, Florida received excellent offensive production and stifled the Oilers on the defensive line. Rodrigues was able to shoot past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner early in the third period. He also found the back of the net from a pass from Anton Lundell that effectively put the game out of reach.
Bobrovsky is claiming the Conn Smythe Trophy as NHL playoff MVP, as he has conceded just one goal in the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final. The Panthers goaltender made 18 saves on Monday night and has now scored two or fewer goals in each of his last five games dating back to the Eastern Conference final against the New York Rangers. Although Oilers star Connor McDavid created several scoring chances, Bobrovsky was up to the challenge all night.
The Stanley Cup Final will resume on Thursday night in Edmonton, where the Oilers will try to get back into the series. One place they will need to look if they want to turn things around is converting on their power play opportunities. Edmonton is 0-for-7 on the man advantage in the series, including 0-for-4 in Game 2.
