Forward Sam Reinhart recorded a goal and an assist to pace the Florida Panthers to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. The Panthers are now on the verge of a sweep, with Game 4 scheduled for be played on Saturday night.
After the teams traded goals in the first 22 minutes of the game, the Panthers’ attack woke up in style by scoring three goals in the second period. Veteran winger Vladimir Tarasenko scored his first goal of the series off a layup from Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner behind the Edmonton net. It was the fourth career Stanley Cup Final goal for Tarasenko, who also scored three goals as a member of the St. Louis Blues in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.
Forwards Sam Bennett and Aleksander Barkov also scored goals in the second period to put Florida ahead 4-1. Although the lead seemed secure, the Oilers were able to mount a stellar attack to try and tie the game. Philip Broberg and Ryan McLeod scored goals as Edmonton cut the deficit to 4-3 with 5:17 remaining before Florida used its defensive pressure to outscore its opponents.
The Stanley Cup Final will resume Saturday night in Edmonton, where the Oilers will need to win to avoid elimination. The Oilers have continued to struggle on their power play opportunities, as they are now 0-for-10 in the series after going 0-for-3 in Game 3.
