2024 NHL Stanley Cup Final bracket, scores, schedule: Oilers beat Panthers, 5-3, to force Game 6

The Edmonton Oilers forced Game 6 in the Stanley Cup Final. After scoring eight goals in Game 4, the Oilers responded with a 5-3 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 5 on Tuesday.

For the second consecutive contest, the Oilers faced elimination and managed to get off to a good start. Just as he did on Saturday, Oilers star Connor McDavid thrived throughout the night with two goals and two assists to lead the way. Since being left off the scoresheet in Game 1, McDavid has racked up three goals and eight assists over the last four games, including back-to-back four-point performances.

Connor Brown, Zach Hyman and Corey Perry each scored a goal to help take some of the pressure off McDavid. It was an onslaught from the Oilers in Game 5, and that has proven to be the theme of the last two games.

Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has given up at least four goals in consecutive games and finally looks like he might be human. Suddenly, the Oilers seemed to find their way on the offensive end of the ice, while Bobrovsky no longer looked like the brick wall he once was.

The Oilers will now have a chance to force a Game 7 if they can get a win at home on Friday. If Stuart Skinner can make some big saves late and McDavid continues to heat up, this series could be far from over.
