A farewell mix for Mbappé
Kylian Mbappe played his final game at the Parc des Princes as a Paris Saint-Germain player on Sunday, a 3-1 defeat to Toulouse that provided moments of celebration and embarrassment in almost equal measure.
The star scored his 44th goal of the season eight minutes into the game, extending his lead at the top of PSG’s top scorers table with his 256th goal for the club. The idea of a perfect ending was dashed just five minutes later when Toulouse’s Thijs Dallinga scored an equalizer, and the visitors added two more goals in the second half to hand PSG just their second defeat of the season.
However, considering the fact that PSG had already won the title, the focus was on the reception Mbappe would receive just two days after announcing his departure and, true to form, it was mixed. Mbappé was booed before the game when his name was called by the stadium announcer, but the tone changed to thanks as soon as he entered the field. PSG fans chanted his name as he emerged from the tunnel and unfurled a banner that read: “Child from the Parisian suburbs, you have become a PSG legend.”
The club itself, however, did not celebrate the end of Mbappe’s seven-year spell in the French capital, despite the argument that he may be the team’s best ever player. PSG spent an hour after the match celebrating their latest title, but kept things focused on the team rather than on an individual, but on the coach Luis Enrique made a cordial farewell statement when speaking to the media later – and at this point, he may be the only club official to do so.
- Henrique: “I thought about that [the tribute] It was fantastic and very sincere. It’s great to recognize the work of a player of his level. He is undoubtedly a club legend, despite his youth. We still have some game left. I wish you the best of luck in your sporting career.”
Mbappe ends his PSG career with two more Ligue 1 matches at Nice and Metz and then the French Cup final against Lyon on May 25.

Midfield Link Game
(maybe) it all comes down to this in the Premier League
After Manchester City and Arsenal claimed victories over the weekend, the Premier League title race will officially go down to the final day as just one point separates the two teams. Several days before Championship Sunday, however, an important chapter in the title race is set to be written on Tuesday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where City will face Spurs and finally get the game back in hand.
It looks like a situation that favors City, who could overtake Arsenal with a win. The defending champions are on a seven-game winning streak in the league and have outscored opponents 28-5 in that time, while Tottenham’s three wins in their last nine games have come exclusively against relegation candidates. There is one small thing though: City have never scored in Spurs’ new building, which opened in 2019, and may need to overcome this surprise hurdle to confirm that they are indeed favorites to win the title once again.
In City’s case, it will be helpful if they are fully fit and face a Tottenham team without some top players. Richarlison missed Saturday’s win over Burnley, while Timo Werner and Yves Bissouma are also on the injured list. The lack of availability of Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies, meanwhile, leaves Spurs without a natural left-back. This greatly harms their small chance of being in the top four, which is 5.3%. according to Opta and could reach 0% early on if Aston Villa beat Liverpool on Monday.
For Tottenham, there is an added level of intrigue: taking a point off City would be a huge boost for rivals Arsenal, who are chasing their first title in two decades. Arsenal’s Kai Havertz plans to abandon their enmity for a few days, admitting on Sunday that he will be “the biggest Tottenham fan of all time” in Tuesday’s high-stakes clash. by ESPN. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, however, plans to pay no attention to the rivalry, by The Athletic.
- Postecoglou: “For me, I don’t understand, I never will,” he said. “I understand the rivalry – I was part of one of the biggest in the world in recent years with Celtic and Rangers – but I have never and will never understand if someone wants their own team to lose. I think we’ll do it as a team (tomorrow)? Or any team on this planet, we’re not just going to try to win. It’s a simple and basic premise. really busy. I do not really care.”

Best Bets
- Premier League: Aston Villa v Liverpool, Monday, 3pm
THE PICK: Ollie Watkins will score (+170) – Few things seem guaranteed in this game between two teams with plenty of incentive – in Villa’s case, a place in the top four and in Liverpool’s case, a strong final week for Jurgen Klopp – but inconsistent form. Both teams’ recent tendencies to score and concede in large numbers, however, mean there are likely to be goals at Villa Park. On a day when Villa could secure their first UEFA Champions League place in more than four decades, count Ollie Watkins among the scorers. - Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur x Manchester City, Tuesday, 3pm
THE PICK: Phil Foden will score (+145) – This is without doubt the highest stakes game of the week, which should please City greatly, regardless of their demons in north London. Expect several players to rise to the occasion to take City to the top of the table, including Phil Foden, who has become the team’s most reliable goalscorer recently.
