The UEFA Champions League is the most coveted title in European club competitions, but the reward for reaching the top will not be limited to the podium at London’s Wembley Stadium on 1 June.
Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid have plenty of encouragement when they take to the field on Saturday – the former is seeking its first Champions League title since 1997, while the latter is aiming for a record 15th trophy. However, there are many incentives outside of this, from the trophy they will lift to entry into other competitions and even the cash prize the club will receive for a successful trip to the British capital.

The trophy and medals
As soon as the final whistle blows, the Champions League winners will be eager for the opportunity to get their hands on the trophy. It is almost 60 centimeters tall and weighs around 7 kilograms, but the aim of lifting the trophy has more to do with the previous achievement than the design itself – “It may not be an artistic masterpiece, but everyone in football is eager to get his hands on it,” silverware creator Jürg Stadelmann once said, by UEFA.
Before the winning team receives the trophy, however, the players and coaching staff will receive medals to commemorate the achievement. The winning team will receive 40 gold medals and have the right to distribute them as they see fit – this includes players who may have played a small role in the run to the podium, but this is at the team’s discretion. If Dortmund win, it will be could mean that American Gio Reyna wins a medal.
The Super Cup
The winner of the Champions League will receive an automatic place in next season’s competition should they need it, but the final is usually played between two teams who have already qualified through their performances in their domestic leagues. This year will be no different, as Real Madrid and Dortmund have already finished in places in the La Liga Champions League and the Bundesliga, respectively.
However, whoever wins on Saturday will headline the UEFA Super Cup, a celebratory competition between the winner of the Champions League and the winner of the Europa League. This year’s edition will take place on August 14 at the Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland, and will see Dortmund or Real Madrid take on Atalanta, who won their first European title by beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final. The cash prize

Another 30%, or about $651 million, will be distributed based on team results. UEFA coefficient ranking. The lowest-ranked team will win one share, which equates to about $1.23 million, while the highest-ranked team will win 32 shares, which equates to nearly $40 million. Real Madrid are in third place before the final and will be guaranteed at least 30 shares, while Dortmund are in eighth place and will be guaranteed at least 25 shares.
The remaining 15%, or about $326 million, will come from broadcast revenue. Half of these funds will go to the national associations of the participating teams based on a fixed percentage determined by UEFA, while the other half will be distributed to the teams based on the number of games they have played.
