Where to watch USWNT vs. South Korea live stream: USA Soccer TV channel, start time for Emma Hayes first match

Emma Hayes will finally sit out the United States women’s national team after being named head coach in December 2023. The USWNT will face South Korea in a two-game penultimate Olympic bye beginning Saturday, June 1 in Colorado. It will be the 16th meeting between the two teams and the USWNT is undefeated (11W-0L-4L) in the all-time series and the first meeting between the two teams since 2021.

Here’s everything you need to know before the game:

Viewing information

  • Date: Saturday, June 1st | Time: 5 p.m. ET
  • Location: Dick’s Sporting Goods Park – Commerce City, Colorado.
  • TELEVISION: TNT, truTV, Universo | Live broadcast: Max, Peacock

What is at stake

These are just friendlies during an international break, so there are no trophies to be won here, but there will be plenty for the US players to show off. The next two friendlies are scheduled for July and are promoted as Olympic farewell games, so the two matches against South Korea will be the final games before the official U.S. Olympic roster is announced.

This week, Hayes finally got a one-on-one meeting with her squad, although she has yet to meet with each player individually. During her pregame press conference, Hayes confirmed that she was still meeting with players individually and joked that she was learning all of their names. A brief introduction to the media and public aside, Hayes will eventually have to name an Olympic lineup, but insists her focus is solely on the game ahead.

“Well, I’m not focused on that today. I’m focused on preparing the team for tomorrow. You know, the goals of camp this week were, you know, to develop an introduction to structural principles, to principles of play,” Hayes said.

“It’s about building trust. It’s about making sure everyone understands what the expectations are. So it’s a process and we have to take it one step at a time and for me the focus is on tomorrow.”

So despite the two-game series being scheduled as single friendlies, they are two warm-up matches before the Olympics and they are still Hayes’ first on the sideline. She named a 27-player roster, which includes four training camp players, so the final group of 18 Olympic hopefuls will likely be selected from the current 23 players Hayes initially named to training camps.

What are they saying

Hayes’ initial arrival in the United States included a media tour of New York prior to USWNT training camp. Here’s some of what she said on how she and the program need to regroup before the Olympics:

“The reality is that world football is where it is, and the rest of the world doesn’t fear the US like it used to. There are different European champions, so it’s our job to quickly understand what we need to do to get closer to those levels again.”

Prediction

The USWNT players will have a lot to prove, so look for some early entries in the final third and attacking opportunities, but South Korea won’t make things easy. Choice: USWNT 3, South Korea 0
