It’s officially time for Copa America preparation to take the field, as Gregg Berhalter will lead the United States men’s national team against a Colombia team that is unbeaten in the last 20 games in all competitions. Still looking for a remarkable victory, the USMNT scheduled strong friendlies for this international break, facing Colombia and Brazil. Concacaf teams have struggled so far during the break and Berhalter will want to ensure his side do not suffer the same fate.
There are already questions to be answered about how the USMNT will align without Sergino Dest as they could start Joe Scally at right back, move to a back three with Tim Weah at right back or even deploy Chris Richards in the rear in a move that would free Antonee Robinson. While we don’t know which method Berhalter will use, the progress will serve as a preview of what to expect from the USMNT during the Copa America.
A team with high expectations of leaving a group containing UruguayPanama and Bolivia, if the USMNT manages to advance, will likely face Brazil or Colombia in the qualifiers, so it’s important to familiarize yourself in advance.

Plots
USMNT: In preparation for the match, the only member of the squad absent from group training was Josh Sargent, who has been dealing with ankle problems since the championship playoffs. “We train with Josh both in the gym and on the field and he will not be available for Colombia. We’ll have to see if he can make it to the Brazil game and we’ll have to make a decision if he can make the Copa América squad, he’s had a lingering foot injury and we’re testing him to see where he’s at,” said Berhalter.
Furthermore, with the best possible clean bill of health, Berhalter at least had the chance to assess his team’s fitness, which is important considering that Tyler AdamsGio Reyna, Tim Weah and Yunus Musah all fought for playing time near the end of the season. All four are essential members of the team, but Berhalter also needs to ensure they are not taken too far ahead of the Copa America as further injuries could hurt the USMNT’s chances.
Colombia: Led by Luis Diaz in attack, Colombia moved up to third place in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying, which includes defeating Brazil. With a victory over Spain as well, this is a team that can give the USMNT good results. The attack is balanced, as Diaz scored just two goals in World Cup qualifying alongside Rafel Santos Borre, while James Rodriguez provided two assists. Alongside the attack, the Colombian team’s defense is what has made it difficult lately, allowing just three goals in six qualifying matches. One player who could have a chance in the match after an impressive season in Premier Leauge is Jhon Duran. The former Chicago Fire man was included in the Colombian squad and with striker being one of the team’s unstable positions, good performances could push him up the pecking order.
Prediction
Neither of these teams will want to show the other much in the match, with the chance to face each other again in just a few weeks’ time leading to a cagey draw that doesn’t answer too many questions. Choice: USMNT 1, Colombia 1
