Where to watch Slovenia vs. Denmark: UEFA Euro 2024 Group C live online, TV, pick and odds

Semi-finalists of the last European Championship three years ago, Denmark arrive in Germany with a current of expectations that they will at least fulfill the role of underdogs before their opening game against Slovenia on Sunday. Kasper Hjulmand’s side are not lacking in talent, but they struggled to make a big impact at the 2022 World Cup and also hardly torched their qualifying group.

In fact, it was simply a better head-to-head record that saw them defeat Sunday’s opponents Slovenia and take top spot in their qualifying group. Thomas Delaney’s second-half goal in Copenhagen was enough to defeat the Dragons, who held off competition from Finland and Kazakhstan to reach their first major tournament in 14 years. With Jan Oblak and Benjamin Sesko in the team, Slovenia have difference marks on both sides of the field, will this be enough to gain an advantage over a team that is favorite to finish second in Group C? Here’s how you can watch the game and what you need to know:

Group C outlook

Denmark will be keen to establish themselves as group leaders, especially with their likely rivals Serbia and England due to face each other in Gelsenkirchen later on Sunday. The latter are favorites to win the group, but Denmark left them close in the Euro 2020 semi-finals and will have the chance to do better in Frankfurt on June 20. Slovenia may be underdogs to escape the group but Matjaz Kek’s side have been in impressive form over the past year, their only defeat coming in Denmark whilst they have beaten the USA and Portugal in friendlies this year.

Team News

Slovenia: Before the warm-up friendly against Armenia last week, former Atalanta striker Josip Ilicic had not played for the national team since November 2021, a period marked by injuries and mental health issues for the 36-year-old. Now back in his homeland and in fine form for Maribor, he marked his return with a goal and could still have an important role to play, even if it is off the bench for Kek, who is expected to flank Sesko with Andraz Sporar and former Brighton prospect Jan Mlakar.

Possible Slovenia XI: Oblak; Karnicik, Brekalo, Bijol, Janza; Horvat, Cerin, Elsnik; Sporar, Sesko, Mlakar

Denmark: Hjulmand’s side have been in excellent form in pre-tournament friendlies, winning Scandinavian games with Sweden and Norway. Christian Eriksen started both games, the clearest sign yet that a disappointing season at Manchester United will not prevent him from playing a key role in the national team. Another veteran, Simon Kjaer, is not expected to have overcome his muscle problem in time to take part in the opening game.

Possible Denmark XI: Schmeichel; Andersen, Christensen, Vestergaard; Maehle, Hojbjerg, Norgaard, Kristiansen; Eriksen; Wind, Hojlund

Prediction

Given that these two teams have faced each other twice in recent times, this could be a very cautious game, decided by the odd goal. Denmark should be good enough to guarantee that they will be the ones to achieve it. CHOICE: Slovenia 0, Denmark 1
