It may have seemed the last tournament of the golden generation for more than Belgium were the future strength of the international game, but heading towards Euro 2024 the end may indeed be in sight. Kevin De Bruyne all that’s left is the miles on your watch and on yours. Romelu Lukaku they look quite stratospheric. Some of the fringe starters from the 2010s remain, but coach Domenico Tedesco won the war of words with Thibaut Courtoiswho didn’t make the trip to Germany. Surrounding the remnants of the great team are promising talents – Johan Bakayoko, Amadou Onana, Zeno Debast – but this tournament seems to have come at a strange time for Belgium.
That said, they must be strong favorites to escape a group without any of the other big beasts in the continental game. With the possible exceptions of Milan Skriniar It is Stanislav Lobotka, Slovakia is blessed with good players, but not with the kind of high-level talent that their opponents might take for granted. Their passage to Euro 2024 was based on doing just enough to overcome the likes of Bosnia, Iceland and Liechtenstein without ever testing Portugal and they may well be eyeing games with the rest of Group E as a route to the last 16. Here’s how you can watch the game and what you need to know:

Group E outlook
Belgium, ranked third in the world, are considered strong favorites for an intriguingly balanced group, where Ukraine and Romania have a similar mix of good and not-so-good talent. These two could go a long way in determining who finishes second in the opening match earlier in the day in Munich. Ukraine may be only slight favorites to take second place given that they have more major tournament experience to mentor promising youngsters like Georgiy Sudakov and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Team News
Belgium: Tedesco tried a back three in the 3-0 friendly win over Luxembourg, extending his manager’s unbeaten start since succeeding Roberto Martinez after the 2022 World Cup. It seems more likely, however, that the 38-year-old continue with a 4-3-3 that brings with it a question that the football world has been asking for more than a decade. How much better could Belgium be with full-backs as good as the rest of the team? Thomas Meunier, Jan Vertonghen It is Arthur Theater These are all questions for the opener.
Possible Belgium XI: Castiles; Castagne, Faes, Debast, De Cuyper; Onana, Mangala, De Bruyne; Trossard, Lukaku, Doku
Slovakia: Juraj Kucka was in the wars leading up to his country’s third consecutive Euro, but the necessary stitching on his eyebrow after the friendly against Wales it seems unlikely that he will be left out on his debut. Instead, he is expected to adopt Francesco Calzona’s 4-3-3, an attacking system firmly in the mold of the coaches he assisted. NaplesMaurizio Sarri and Luciano Spalletti.
Possible Slovakia XI: Dubravka; Pekarik, Vavro, Skriniar, Hanko; Kucka, Lobotka, Duda; Haraslin, Bozanek, Schranz
Prediction
Don’t expect Slovakia to make life easy for Belgium, this could be one of those games where the favorite falls behind and never comes back into contention. However, the favorites from Group E should do the job. CHOICE: Belgium 2, Slovakia 0
