WWE hosts a pay-per-view event in Scotland for the first time this Saturday when Clash at the Castle takes place at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. In the main event, Drew McIntyre hopes to reach the best moment of his career in his home country.

McIntyre will challenge Damian Priest for the world heavyweight championship in what is sure to be a wild atmosphere as his compatriots cheer him on. McIntyre has been in a slump lately, seeing himself as a victim of many different circumstances that prevent him from having the success he deserves. One of the main antagonists in McIntyre’s story is CM Punk, who is expected to return from injury soon, but cost McIntyre the title at WrestleMania by creating an easy spot for Priest to cash in the Money in the Bank contract.

There are a total of five title matches on the card Saturday night. Cody Rhodes will once again defend his undisputed WWE Championship against AJ Styles. The first match took place at Backlash in May and is one of the best wrestling matches of the year. This time, the pair find themselves under “I Quit” stipulations, where the first man to say those words will lose.

Additionally, Sami Zayn seeks to defend the Intercontinental Title against Chad Gable. Zayn was mentored by Gable before WrestleMania when he defeated Gunther to claim the title. Gable made sure Zayn knew he owed him one before getting the better of Gable in the meeting. Gable then fired and construction began to make this match happen.

Other notable matches set for the card include WWE Women’s Champion Bayley facing hometown hero Piper Niven. And the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles are on the line when champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill face two teams in a Triple Threat match. Belair and Cargill face the teams of Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, as well as Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark.

Let’s take a look at who the CBS Sports experts are picking to win each match on Saturday’s card.

WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 Predictions

World Heavyweight Championship – Damian Priest (c) vs.

McIntyre getting the win in front of his home crowd would be a huge moment, and one he deserves for the work he has done for WWE, especially during the height of the pandemic. After Priest cashed in at WrestleMania to end McIntyre’s title reign in minutes, someone at X pointed out that no one had ever paid for a ticket to watch McIntyre defend a world title. This is not an attempt by McIntyre, but a product of the pandemic and profit. The point is that the story of McIntyre being eliminated from the title – preferably by CM Punk – at this event is too good to pass up. McIntyre has the ultimate villain working for him now, as most of his complaints are valid, the problem is just his reaction. Priest didn’t seem “O guy” who can headline a show as a world champion, but most wrestlers aren’t, if we’re being honest. But the story is better with McIntyre getting screwed and also being free for Punk’s imminent return while the winner of this match is more or less less blocked to face Gunther at SummerSlam. I know the most popular choice right now is to have CM Punk cost McIntyre once again, but I can’t shake the feeling that WWE wants to go in a different direction. Without Rhea Ripley, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, Raw has been lacking in star power lately and has been leaning heavily on Judgment Day to carry the bulk of the show each week. And no disrespect to Priest, but he hasn’t been able to adequately fill the “top guy” role that the show needs. There are simply better options now with McIntyre, Gunther, Jey Uso and Sami Zayn. And if they were to hire Punk to screw Drew once again, they would need to immediately move on to this match, and I haven’t heard anything that definitively confirms that Punk has been healed from his torn triceps. McIntyre vs. Punk is still endgame and Gunther will likely be world champion by the end of the summer. But, at least for now, it’s time to shake things up and take the title away from Priest. WWE Undisputed Championship – Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles (“I Quit” match)

So, after the latest Saudi Arabian filler arc with Logan Paul, Cody is back in business with AJ Styles. While I have always believed that Styles is at his best as a heel, there is no chance that Cody will lose the title via the “I Quit” stipulation. Also, they need to hurry up and get to the Cody vs. Randy Orton that people have been waiting for. In a scenario where the returns of Roman Reigns and The Rock are inevitable, the last thing Rhodes’ title reign needs is to start spinning. Pick: Cody Rhodes retains title – Casey (also Brookhouse and Mahjouri)

WWE Women’s Championship – Bayley (c) vs.

Anyone who has spent any time in wrestling knows a short-term title match when they see one. It’s great that Niven is getting a big place in Scotland, but I don’t think anyone considers her a winner here. Bayley’s championship run hasn’t been great and that makes such an obvious match a little more disappointing, but we know Nia Jax gets the title shot at SummerSlam and Bayley vs. Pick: Bayley retains title – Brookhouse (also Casey and Mahjouri)

Intercontinental Championship – Sami Zayn (c) x Chad Gable

It would be great to see Gable finally win singles gold, but I’m losing faith in that happening anytime soon. A triple threat match with Bronson Reed seemed like a convenient way to get the title to Gable while also extending the feud with Zayn, but the defending champion held on. It’s also clear that WWE’s current regime favors long title reigns. The internal turmoil of Alpha Academy makes for solid pro wrestling television. Otis’ role, in particular, makes the title outcome a wild card. Otis, albeit reluctantly, sided with Gable at all times. He will make a difference in this match one way or another. I’ll side with Zayn, but I’d be happy to hear “and new.” Pick: Sami Zayn retains title -Majouri

Assuming Gable stays, WWE could easily have him feud with Otis and the remaining members of Alpha Academy alongside his new protégés in The Creed Brothers. Meanwhile, assuming WWE wants to shake up the Raw main event scene, Zayn could easily transition to the main event via The Money in the Bank Ladder match and/or a program with Drew McIntyre and a rematch with Gunther. WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship – Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill (c) vs. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn vs.

Belair and Cargill are some of the biggest favorites on the card. The champions defeated Baszler and Stark on a recent episode of Raw, making their inclusion in the match exciting. The same goes for Fyre and Dawn, who were not considered for the main cast. Unlike most matches scheduled for Clash at the Castle, the goal is to get bodies on the card. Belair and Cargill are big priorities for the promotion and need to accumulate title defenses. The abrupt inclusion of Fyre and Dawn is mainly to get Dawn a match in her home country of Scotland. No complaints there. It’s great that WWE is showcasing so much Scottish talent on one big show. Consider this an easy title defense for the champions.
