Singapore Air is also reimbursing the airfare of all passengers on the flight – even if they were not injured – and has provided US$1,000 for departure expenses from Bangkok.

During the incident, the plane dropped from an altitude of about 37,000 feet to 31,000 feet in about five minutes, according to tracking data from the FlightAware.

It was about 10 hours into the flight after the plane crossed the Andaman Sea and was approaching the Thai coast when the difficult journey began. There have been storms in the area and although many associate turbulence with storms, Climatologists say the rapid warming of the world’s oceans, caused by climate change, may also contribute to flight turbulence.
